"Advent is the time we are given to welcome the Lord who comes to encounter us, and also to verify our longing for God, to look forward and prepare ourselves for Christ's return."

(Pope Francis)

'Tis the season to put up your Christmas tree, decorate your house with fairy lights, enjoy dinners with family and friends, and buy gifts at shopping centre's where it's close to impossible to find parking...

All of these things are great and can be exciting in building up the excitement towards Christmas. But when the 'to-do' list and the busyness of the season takes over, the Christmas season can cause more anguish and stress than joy.

This is the blessing of the Advent Season - the start of a new liturgical year. Advent is a time when we can step back, slow down and contemplate the mystery and joy of the Incarnation. It is the season to renew our joy, hope, faith and love.

What can you do in this Season of Advent, to prepare your heart, mind and soul for Jesus' birth at Christmas?

ADVENT REFLECTION
from Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP

On each Sunday of Advent, Archbishop Anthony Fisher will be sharing a short reflection, to remind us and help us to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.

Last week, Archbishop shared on the theme of 'Hope' drawing from the life of Blessed Carlo Acutis.

Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram page each Sunday morning to receive this prayerful and reflective tool

FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING
Local World Youth Day Celebration

The torrential rain didn't dampen Sydney Catholic Youth's and Sydney Catholic School's first, large gathering since the lockdown.

On the Feast of Christ the King at St Mary's Cathedral on Sunday, 24th November, over 800 young people, clergy, religious, school students, youth leaders, youth groups  and families for Mass with Archbishop Anthony Fisher.

This marked the new day for the annual World Youth Day Celebration which has previously been held on Palm Sunday since St John Paul II began the tradition in 1985. Pope Francis announced at the end of last year that he "...decided, beginning next year to transfer the Diocesan celebration of WYD from Palm Sunday to Christ the King Sunday". This allows youth and young people to celebrate the young Church without needing to balance it with spiritual preparation for Holy Week.

Thank you to all who came along - it was a joy to celebrate with you!
