Y-FACTOR 2021: Made for More

Who? Y-Factor is for teens in years 7 to 12 led by Sydney Catholic Youth in collaboration with Youth Ministry Coordinators from across the Sydney Archdiocese. All leaders will hold a current Working with Children Check and have many years of experience in youth ministry. We'll be using a wide variety of mediums including music, activities, multimedia, drama and testimony to communicate to young people the awesomeness of their faith, and how they can apply it to their lives daily.

When? 9:30am, Tuesday April 13 – 1:00pm, Friday April 16, 2021

Where? Benedict XVI Retreat Centre, 347 Grose Wold Rd, Grose Vale NSW 2753.

Transport? A chartered bus will depart from St Joachim's, Lidcombe. Please arrive at 8:00am so we can get away on time. The bus will return to the same location on Friday 16th by 2:30pm.

What to bring? Swimmers (see note below), rosary beads, torch, beanie, comfortable and warm modest clothing and shoes. Bring a nice outfit (something you might wear out to dinner), an old set of clothes and pair of shoes that can get wet and dirty and bring a plastic bag to put your wet and dirty items in. Please leave valuables at home. The Archdiocese of Sydney will not be liable for any loss or damage to personal property during the camp, but we would also like the campers to step away from their usual access to technology while on the camp.

Please note: bikinis or speedos are not to be brought and attendees are asked to bring swim shorts and swim shirts if possible (or at least a one piece for the girls). This requirement is a part of practically encouraging young people to live modestly and we appreciate your support.

Program? We are keen for the program to be a surprise to the teens however there is lots of fun planned. Participants will share and discuss aspects of their faith and experience God afresh. Being counter-cultural is at the heart of what we do and the young people who attend will leave with a richer understanding of Christ's love for them. There are 5 main sessions that take a look at the theme, reconciliation, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and commitment.

Child Protection and Safety The Archdiocese of Sydney believes that genuine concern for the safety of all participants on our camp is of the utmost importance. All staff and volunteers have undergone child protection checks and careful screening.

Questions? Email or call Sydney Catholic Youth on 9307 8152.

NOTE: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, at this stage limited people will be permitted to the event. SCY will ensure strict hygiene measures are in place.

In this midst of social distancing and isolation, sharing faith and hope with one another becomes even more important. As always, we are pleased to provide you with your monthly batch of Faith Circles for the four weeks of March 2021 spanning from the 3rd Sunday of Lent (Year B) to Palm Sunday (Year B).

Many groups are temporarily meeting in their Faith Circles groups online. If you have not done this (or are unsure how) you might like to check out our Zoom Resource Guide. We have also created a new section on our diocesan website—Nourishing Our Faith which has links to many faith formation opportunities.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time and we keep our trust and hope in our Lord Jesus.

Plenary Council Journey

A number of key themes emerge in the document, including:

• renewing a Christ-centred Church that heals wounds and warms hearts;
• strengthening practices of discernment and synodality;
• the call to co-responsibility in mission and governance;
• embedding a response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse;
• renewing and supporting the ordained ministry;
• promoting discipleship in parishes, families and young people;
• forming prayerful and Eucharistic communities that are eager to engage in society for the service of all;
• proclaiming the Gospel in a change of era;
• renewing the Church's solidarity with First Australians and those on the margins of society;
• promoting an integral ecology of life for all persons, societies and our common home, the Earth.

Message from Your Parish Priest

My Friends,

There are few things that I would like to communicate with you today:

- We are in the First Week of Lenten Season.  We are called to come back to God with all our hearts.  We are called to concentrate on Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving to prepare ourselves for the Easter Celebration.  I hope that this Lenten Season would be a Holy Season for you and for us.   I invite you to go back to Mass on weekend.  Now we can have 180 people for each Mass with 2sqs meters distancing.  From last year until now I haven't seen you young people to go back to Mass even though you have no problem of going anywhere.  We also need you to contribute financially to our Parish if you have not done for long time. Please think about that.

-  Secondly, we have cut live stream Mass on weekday.  Now I think that for the sake of our homebound parishioners, from tomorrow every Friday we will live stream mass and adoration.

God bless you,

Fr John Ho

New Covid-19 Restrictions for Churches

Dear All,

I just posted the email of Philip Dean a member of our Parish Leadership Team about the New Covid Restrictions.

With the New Restriction from the NSW Health is that for weddings, funerals or places of worship, there will be maximum of 100 people allowed and the four-square metre rule will apply.  Our church can cater for 100 people so you need to register online or ring the Parish Office (for the elderly people only).  From midnight tonight the wearing of masks is mandatory with a $200 fine person and children under 12 are exempt.  There is however a grace period until Monday.  So you need to bring your own mask.   I believe that the celebrant and the Lectors can read without a mask.

Best Regards,

Fr John Ho

Dear team

Happy new year and praying for a great 2021.

From midnight tonight the wearing of masks is mandatory with a $200 fine per person and children under 12 are exempt. There is however a grace period until Monday.

Flor can you please advise the marshals.

We will also need a note in the bulletin and on the website. We may need some masks for the ministers eg musicians and singers until further clarification.

Note this also applies to weddings and funerals.

God bless you all

Philip Dean
