Bishop Brian launches the Bishop’s Annual Appeal 2021

Given that our church buildings are closed, I have decided to write to you and share some information about the Bishop's Annual Appeal. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

My sincere greetings to you, and to your family.

As our church buildings are closed, I have decided to personally write to you about the Bishop's Annual Appeal, an appeal that you would normally hear about from your parish priest, and in the past have supported when you have attended Mass.

The Bishop's Annual Appeal is currently being held in our diocese, and necessarily, it has moved to an online appeal.

This year, gifts made in response to the Bishop's Annual Appeal will support two important ministries:

·         Supporting the retirement and health of our clergy - Caring for those who have cared for us

·         Supporting local parish ministries Staying connected during this time of pandemic

To learn more about the focus of the appeal, view the special appeal video, and to make a donation please visit us below:

Recognising that we are called to help one another through prayer and action, your donation to this appeal will enable me to provide a dignified retirement for our diocesan clergy and ensure that our parish communities stay connected during this time of pandemic. I know that there are many pressures on families at this time, but if you are in a position to give, I would be very grateful if you would consider giving to this appeal.

Sean, I pray that you and your family remain safe and well, and I look forward to the day that we are all able to be together again to celebrate the sacraments.

Yours in Christ

Most Rev Brian G Mascord DD

The Catechism is not a textbook, a collection of ideas, or a set of rules. It is the faithful echo of a God who wishes to reveal himself to us and desires us to respond. Starting today, you can watch videos from Real + True, a new and exciting global apostolate with a mission to share the gift of our faith by creating beautiful, captivating, and relevant content inspired by the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Real + True videos will cover the entire Catechism of the Catholic Church. There will be 48 units, each one covering a section of the Catechism. Every month, starting in September 2021, a new unit will be available on FORMED.

Each unit will have three short videos (6–7 minutes each):

Proclamation Video—The first video is meant to rouse the spiritual curiosity that allows us to be prepared to hear the gospel message.

Explanation Video—The second video breaks open the content of the passage of the Catechism

Connection Video—The third video is meant to be a real-life application of the passage from the Catechism.

"Sound catechesis is always rooted in Christ; it should lead people to know and love Christ, and its message should change the hearts of those who receive it. This project is a fine and creative example of the evangelizing catechesis called for by the new Directory for Catechesis."

— Dr. Petroc Willey, Director of the Catechetical Institute at Franciscan University

"The world today is hungry for Jesus and for his message of truth, hope, and love. I am pleased to see projects such as Real + True emerge, bringing innovation and excellence to the way our faith is presented to the young women and men of our Church and the world."

— Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades of Fort Wayne-South Bend and Chairman of the Committee on Doctrine for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

🙏 📖 BLESSED Advent & Christmas Reflections 2021 | ORDER NOW!

We are excited to let you know that we are now taking orders for Blessed—Daily Advent and Christmas Reflections 2021 including discount pricing for bulk orders as well as a GST free option for Australian Catholic Religious Groups!

This year has been a rollercoaster of emotions and challenges, especially in light of recent lockdowns. As we hopefully ease back into the routines of our lives from the advent of lockdown, may we see how our re-emergence into new life mirrors the Advent season as we await the birth of the Saviour. God chose Mary to give birth to Jesus, and Christ has chosen us as his dwelling when we meditate on his Word and receive him in the Eucharist.

As we countdown the days to Christmas during these difficult times, we pray that by meditating on God's Word in these daily Advent and Christmas reflections, you may be graced with moments of silence to ponder in your heart (cf. Lk 2:19) the many "blessings" in your life—inspiring you in your call to "blessedness" (that is, "holiness") where true happiness is gained (cf. Pope Francis, Gaudete et exsultate, 64).

Blessed is a 92-page pocket-size book containing short spiritually rich, yet accessible, daily reflections from the beginning of Advent (28 November 2021) through to the Baptism of the Lord (9 January 2022).

Blessed also features beautiful religious artworks from the Masters such as Murillo, Strozzi, Jouvenet, Botticelli and Reni with enlightening "Artwork Spotlight" reflections written by the popular Monsignor Graham Schmitzer.

SCY News: September 2021 Edition

September 2021 Edition

After 4 years at the Archdiocese of Sydney, Chris Lee has resigned from his Team Leader at Sydney Catholic Youth to take up a new and exciting opportunity at the Diocese of Broken Bay.

We are so grateful for all that he has done in building up Sydney Catholic Youth into the agency that it is today, as well as the support that he has provided for youth and young adults over the years.

In his announcement, Chris wrote the following:

"All young people of Sydney should be confident in the belief that Archbishop Anthony has always believed in you and now, more than ever, we need your energy and enthusiasm to bring our Country back to God.

While it might be scary at times be courageous and give your time and energy for the mission of the Church. Archbishop Anthony says all the time - "the young people of the Church are not the church of tomorrow but the Church of the here and now"."

Please keep him in your prayers as he begins his new mission working closely with Bishop Anthony Randazzo.

Thank you Chris and God bless!

  From the SCY Team

As we enter this new chapter, we are looking forward to continuing to build upon the foundations laid by Chris and previous SCY team members, as well as seeking new opportunities to further develop the work of Sydney Catholic Youth. We are looking forward to sharing our plans with you soon!

From 28 August 2021, all enquiries related to youth ministry and support can be directed to John Nguyen, Youth Officer in Sydney Catholic Youth, at or 0432 342 039

Peace possible despite restrictions

By Fr Josh Miechels

"Lockdown is not fun. But it doesn't mean it can't be lived peacefully.
Especially when you're in another country, in a language you speak clumsily, missing basic goods like your friends and favourite places and argileh and sunshine, doing a new task which deprives you even of the people around you.

This was my experience arriving in France six months ago, in the middle of Covidfest with a 6pm curfew, a 10km movement radius and most things closed – a situation which endured for some unwelcome months..."
