Catholic Perspective: Same Sex Marriage:
SATURDAY 5th November 2016 @ 10am-noon @ Parish Hall,
St John the Evangelist Parish Church, (36 Cordeaux St Campbelltown)
· Ms Monica Doumit will discuss a Catholic perspective on the same sex marriage question followed by Q&A and morning tea.
· Same-sex marriage: it's about your family too. We are often told that same-sex marriage will not affect anyone except those who want to get married, and that tolerance demands we step out of this debate. But a change in any law has consequences, intended and unintended and the marriage law is no different. This talk will explore the effects of same-sex marriage for every Australian and explain why it is necessary that we all make our voices heard in this most important issue. There will also be plenty of time for discussion, so come along with your questions and concerns.
· Monica Doumit is the co-ordinator of Catholic Talk, a communications initiative aimed at providing a clear and informed Catholic perspective on issues facing Australians today. She is also the co-editor of MarriageEquals.org.au, which provides useful resources for engaging in the conversations around the redefinition of marriage. Prior to this, she was a senior lawyer in an international finance firm and holds a Masters of Bioethics from the University of Sydney.
