This week I had the pleasure of addressing the mid-term assembly of the Capuchin Friars held at Baulkham Hills. Men from ministries in all parts of the world attended.
Like so many others they were heartsick with the reality of the clerical abuse scandal and the shame it has brought on all of us in the Church. At the same time there was a realistic hope that positive changes to Church procedures, processes and culture can come.
RC public hearing into Parramatta and Armidale dioceses handeling of abuse claims against Joseph Farrell
The Royal Commission will hold a public hearing into the response of Catholic Church authorities to allegations of child sexual abuse by John Joseph Farrell who was a priest in the dioceses of Armidale and Parramatta in the 1980s and early 1990s.
The hearing will commence on 12 September 2016 in Sydney at the Royal Commission's hearing rooms in Sydney.
TJHC speaks to school students in Mt Gambier and local community
Last week Francis Sullivan was in Mt Gambier where he visited Tenison Woods College, a 1400 student early childhood to Year 12 school. During the visit he was interview by Year 11 student, Laura Turley, for Shine Radio, the school's internal radio program which is also podcast to parents.
Fr Dean Marin, Parish Priest for Mt Gambier and Millicent and Francis Sullivan were also interviewed by Selina Woods for the local ABC radio breakfast show about last week's community meeting.
The Royal Commission will hold a public hearing in Newcastle, commencing Tuesday 2 August 2016 to inquire into the experiences of survivors of child sexual abuse perpetrated by clergy and lay people involved in or associated with the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle.
It will also look at past and present systems, policies and practices in place within the Diocese for responding to instances and allegations of child sexual abuse.
Next week the Commission will also start its public hearing into disabilitiy service providers including the Mater Dei School in Camden, NSW and other non-government and government providers.
