What's on in March?

Welcome Greetings for March

We hope and pray that your Lenten journey continues to be a rewarding time of spiritual renewal and nourishment as we journey towards the celebration of Easter at the end of the month.

Below are some of the significant events and workshop dates for the month of March and early April.


Spending Time with Jesus - Encountering God's Embrace

TUESDAY 15 MARCH 2016
7pm-9pm Xavier Conference Centre (38 Harbour Street, Wollongong)

In this Year of Mercy we are invited to encounter God and his mercy more closely, especially through Jesus the face of the Father's mercy. Led by Fr Terry Herbert msc, this reflection session will explore our relationship with Jesus via input, song, prayer and group-discussion. hopefully awakening awareness of the practicality of our lived faith as Jesus' disciples. Lighting the Way - Chrism Mass + Cathedral Lights

WEDNESDAY 23 MARCH 2016
7.30pm-9.30pm St Francis Xavier Cathedral (36 Harbour Street, Wollongong)

In celebration of Pope Francis' Jubilee Year of Mercy, St Francis Xavier Cathedral Wollongong will be lit up in a wash of purple and yellow for this year's Chrism Mass - the unique annual liturgy that is only celebrated at the Cathedral of the Diocese. The Chrism Mass, held each year on the Wednesday night of Holy Week, gathers the entire Diocese (bishop, priests, deacons and lay faithful) as the Bishop blesses the oil of chrism, the oil of catechumens and the oil of the sick, which are used for the Sacraments in the local parish communities throughout the year. Also on this occasion, priests renew their commitment to serve God and his people. Everyone is warmly invited to witness this historic event of the Cathedral under lights and to celebrate the beautiful Chrism Mass prior to the Easter Triduum. Liturgical Ministry Training: Parish Lector Trainers & Coordinators (Train the Trainers)

SATURDAY 2 APRIL 2016
10am-4pm Xavier Conference Centre (38 Harbour Street, Wollongong)

Parish Lector and Reader Coordinators please note! This special train the trainer course will equip you with the resources necessary to run effective reader training in your parishes. The day will step through the three essential modules of Liturgy Brisbane's Powerful Points training package for use with Readers and Lectors. It will cover techniques for peer reviews with lectors and readers to help build skills and eliminate common problems in effective proclamation of the Word at Mass and other liturgies. Stories of Hope - Exploring the Parables of Mercy

TUESDAY 5 APRIL 2016
7pm-9pm St Thomas Aquinas Parish Hall (Bundaroo Street, Bowral)

Jesus spoke in parables to reveal the nature of God as that of a Father who constantly reaches out to us in love and forgiveness.  Many of the parables Jesus told are familiar to us – the prodigal son, the lost coin etc. This evening provides us with an invitation to see these parables anew, recognising ourselves in them and exploring their meaning for our lives today.RSVP essential to helen.bennett@dow.org.au or 4222 2403 by Friday 1 April.


Church & World - Conflict or Merciful Embrace (Vatican II)

THURSDAY 7 APRIL 2016

Pope Francis inspires us to look at the relationship between Church & World anew, though deeply rooted in the vision of Vatican II. This discussion evening is an invitation to explore this relationship, how do we "as Church" relate to the world and how are we called to make a difference, enabling the mercy of God to be made evident.
