In his recent letter to young people, Pope Francis has encouraged us to study the corporal and spiritual works of mercy during this year of mercy and in the lead up to WYD in July. So that is what we are going to do!
From February to July our monthly Catholicism 101 will be called 'The Mercy Series'. Each month we will hear about a different corporal and spiritual work of mercy and importantly, how we can live that particular work in our own life. Our speakers will be engaging clergy, religious and lay people who have a very real understanding or practical engagement in that work of mercy. We really think you'll like it! So why not commit to come to the full series with a friend and really engage in the ways we can be the hands and feet of Christ in our world.
The Mercy Series is held in the Cathedral Chapter Hall following City Silence and includes a light supper. Really hope to see you there. Dates are as follows:
Tuesday 16 Feb – Corporal: To feed the hungry and give drink to the thirsty / Spiritual: To instruct the ignorant Tuesday 15 Mar - Corporal: To clothe the naked / Spiritual: To counsel the doubtful Tuesday 12 Apr - Corporal: To visit the sick / Spiritual: To comfort the afflicted Tuesday 17 May - Corporal: To shelter the homeless / Spiritual: To bear wrongs patiently Tuesday 21 Jun - Corporal: To bury the dead / Spiritual: To pray for the living and the dead Tuesday 12 Jul - Corporal: Visit the imprisoned / Spiritual: To admonish the sinner and forgive offences willingly
