TJHC community briefings continued this week in the Diocese of Ballarat in Victoria ahead of the Ballarat hearing later this month, St Mark's Parish in Drumoyne in Sydney, and the Principals' Association of Victorian Catholic Secondary Schools in Essendon in Victoria.
The Rockhampton hearing into St Joseph's Orphanage in Neerkol finished last week and in the next month or so we will begin the public hearing into child abuse that occurred in and around Ballarat in Victoria in the decades up to the 1990s.
The hearing isn't looking exclusively at abuse within the Catholic Church but evidence from survivors of abuse within local Church institutions will be difficult and challenging.
ABC online is reporting the Royal Commission will hold a public hearing in Ballarat from Tuesday May 19, 2015.
According to reports the Commission will hear the experiences of survivors and the impact of abuse on the town's families and social fabric.
This will be the Commission's second regional hearing, following the investigation into the Neerkol Orphanage outside Rockhampton earlier this month.
It will follow a public hearing in Sydney starting next week into health care providers in NSW and Victoria as well as a number of authorities charged with managing health care complaints.
Summary of government responses to Commission's redress paper
As part of its consultation on redress and civil litigation, the Royal Commission released a consultation paper in January 2015.
The Commission has published 45 submissions, including seven from Commonwealth, State and Territory governments. The TJHC has done a summary of the government submissions.
Read the second part of the the e-Record's feature on the work of Andrea Musulin, child protection leader and pioneer in the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth.
Ms Musulin talks of dramatic changes taking place in Archdiocese to face abuse head on and to minimise future opportunities of its re-occurence.
