Pastoral Planning Working Group - Faith education and spiritual formation

Hi,

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback to me last week. It has really been invaluable.

To update you on the Pastoral Planning Working Group looking at faith education and spiritual formation, the meeting last week was essentially a meet-and-greet at which the process was again outlined. A mailing list was set up to facilitate communication within the group. Specifically we were asked to suggest, using a form that the parish services team provided on Monday, up to four activities for faith formation.

Attached is the four points that I have suggested based on the feedback last week. I have amalgamated these into four key actions: (i) Develop Faith Knowledge; (ii) Support Evangelisation Outreach; (iii) Encourage Catholic Spirituality; and (iv) Develop Skills of Ministers.

Also attached are some of the suggestions from other members. A number of their points already covered some of our ideas, so I have tried not to double up. Hopefully, between these, all of our ideas have been covered.

Our next steps are to discuss, refine, and prioritise these suggestions. In the first instance the mailing list will be used for this discussion, and then another meeting will be held. While no specific budget has been mentioned, I imagine that the priority agreed for different actions together with budget restraints will determine what actions get to go ahead. The co-ordinator is also looking at the suggestions from other working groups and he will see any overlap between groups.

Let me know what you think of the suggestions so far. I will post along others as they come in.

Peace,
Sean

Pastoral Planning Working Group - Faith education and spiritual formation

Hi!

I will be assisting/representing on the Diocesan working group for Faith education and spiritual formation.

The first meeting for the group is this Thursday and they have already sent out a draft briefing paper, which is attached. It isn't quite complete, as you will see, but is excellent to have before we start.

I'd be happy to have your thoughts and suggestions to take along to these meetings, this week and future meetings, to help guide our discussions and results.

I look forward to hearing your ideas.

Peace,
Sean

Our latest update offers many faith opportunities. I often hear that someone didn't know about an event they would have attended. So please share the contents with others.

Diocesan Pastoral Planning – What's Happening?
OVER 300 PEOPLE GATHER TO DRAFT GOALS FOR DIOCESE. Our first diocesan pastoral plenary session was held on Saturday, 26 June at St Mary Star of the Sea College, Wollongong. Over 320 people were in attendance to pray together and prioritise the issues which emerged from consulting with over 2000 people earlier in the year. The gathering offered draft goals for the Diocese. Working Groups will now be formed from those at the gathering and other interested people, to consider what actions are needed to address the goals. These draft actions will be taken to our next plenary on Saturday, 18 September (please note new date) where those gathered can consider and offer further recommendations. You are invited to this next gathering. Also, please keep informed and offer your feedback via our website www.ourjourneyahead.org.au

Many Cultures, One Christ - Diocesan Mass

St John Vianney's Church, Fairy Meadow, 2.00pm.

31 October
Diocesan Celebration for the Canonisation of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.
This is a wonderful opportunity for us to publicly witness to our faith and to celebrate the first Australian to become a canonised saint of the Church. It is an occasion too, to celebrate Blessed Mary MacKillop's contribution, personally and through her Sisters, to the development of the faith and of Catholic education. Many young women of the Diocese have been called to follow Mother Mary of the Cross and to serve the Church and society as Sisters of St Joseph.  The celebration on 31 October at 2.30pm will take the form of a dramatic musical interpretation of the spirituality of Blessed Mary of the Cross, performed by young people of the Diocese. This will be followed by Solemn Mass of St Mary of the Cross. After Mass, refreshments will be served.  This diocesan celebration will be the principal opportunity for the Church of the Diocese - the laity, religious and clergy - to claim St Mary of the Cross as our own.
