WYD08 Update

JCI Touches Many
Accompanied by large crowds, music, song and dance Bishop Peter Ingham
travelled with the World Youth Day Cross, Icon of Mary and Message
Stick as they travelled across the Diocese of Wollongong. Warmly
welcomed throughout the region, the journey covered 63 events over 13
days across the Macarthur, Southern Highlands, Shoalhaven and
This series of moving events enabled locals to feel a bond with people
from across the globe who had previously experienced a connection with
these symbols of peace, hope and unity for all humanity.

World Youth Day 2008 Program Announced
Times and details of the major events at World Youth Day Sydney 2008
(WYD08) in July have now been released. WYD08 organisers also unveiled
the name that will be used to identify the joint venues hosting the
Evening Vigil and Final Mass with Pope Benedict XVI.

cherish. With over 300,000 youth coming from overseas and interstate
this is an occasion not to be missed and it's happening right here on

HomeStay Hosts Needed
Bring the world's largest youth event into your home by helping to
host one or two of the young people from around the world expected to
attend World Youth Day in July 2008. Many have already generously put
up their hands but because of the immense popularity of the Diocese of
Wollongong we urgently need to place another 300 pilgrims.
If you are interested in opening your home and showing some of our
famous Aussie hospitality to our international visitors

The Next Step Towards WYD08
A four-day cultural celebration organised for the many international
visitors we will be hosting in the week prior to the main event, Days
in the Dioceses will be an integral part of our World Youth Day
experience and provide a truly special meeting of cultures and people.

Key Dates for Days in the Dioceses:
* 8/9 July International visitors arrive for Days the Diocese, meet
with local HomeStay hosts
* 9.30am Friday 11 July 'Living Justly' Social justice day with
international visitors held at various
* 12.30pm – 4.30pm Saturday 12 July 'Everything Aussie Festival' Lang
Park, Wollongong
* 5pm – 8pm WYD Commissioning Vigil Mass and pre Mass entertainment at
WIN Entertainment Centre
